I would like to share the recipe here. Basic recipe is from Asha's blog, but I made a few changes to it.

Steam:
Rice with enough salt

Half cook :
Brinjals (I used the huge purple ones)

Fry in a little oil and make into a paste:

Dhaniya
Urid dal
Chennadal
Red chillies
Cloves
Cinnamon
Caper (marati moggu)
coconut
peanuts (optional)

Heat oil in a pan :

Season with mustard seeds, add the paste and fry until oil floats on top, and then add half cooked brinjals and cook until brinjals are fully done.

Mix it with rice. Add chopped coriander leaves!

Yummmy!!!!!

Eat with some chips and some nice colourful raitha (make it with carrots, cucumbers and coriander leaves)

Easy cooking, works really well if you have a fever/body pain

Ever since I started this blog, I have wanted to update it everyday, but never really found the time (wonder what I do all day long at home though !) Today my hubby is home, he is not well, has a headache, so do I, but I seem to have all the energy on the earth or write entry after entry in my blog!!

Just made some really spicy Molagu rasam (pepper based) and spinach. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

Tamarind (use only tamarind or a combo of tamarind and tomato)
Dhaniya: 1Tbsp
Jeera: 1Tbsp
Pepper: 2Tbsp
Hing
Tur dal: 1Tbsp
Curry leaves few
Salt
Ghee: 1Tbsp, mustard for seasoning
Coriander leaves

Procedure:

1. Soak tamarind in water. I usually microwave it for 1min or so. Extract the juice.
2. Add salt, hing, half of the curry leaves to the extract and boil it for some time.
3. Make a powder of dhaniya, jeera, pepper, tur dal and add this to the extract.
4. Keep it on the stove for just a few minutes. Do not let it boil.
5. Heat ghee, add mustard, wait for it to splutter and add it to the rasam.
6. Add cut coriander leaves.

Have it with steaming hot rice. Works really well if you feel feverish, or have a body pain and the likes.

Diamonds, a woman's best friend???!!

Diamonds, they say is a woman's best friend, but thats definitely not mine!

I happened to watch Blood Diamond and another program about the diamond miners in Africa, who are being attacked and sometimes even killed for the diamonds. How pathetic! This is when I decided that I shall not buy diamonds anymore. I do have a nose pin, which I hardly use, but that will be it.

Also, I wonder what difference a silk sari makes, except serving as a status symbol in the Indian society where half the population doesn't even have enough money for their basic necessities. Although I cannot serve every single person in the country, I would try my level best to make people's life better.

All these said and done, my opinions will not always be taken into account and I will be compelled to buy some of these just because we have enough money to do so, makes no sense I totally understand, but thats how the Indian society works.

Wish I can put some sense into these strata conscious people! I have had Malayalee friends before, but no one has been kind enough to make me some puttu...except for my latest friend. My god I fell in love with it. It was love at first sight for me. She made it with roasted red rice flour. When steamed with fresh grated coconut, the flavor, the colour... wow... I still dream about it after a week.

I'm an ardent food fan, and look at me and you'll know what I mean :) But off late, I've lost my appetite for sweets and chocolates (Even then, I did not succeed in loosing a lot of weight :( )

I'm an ethnic South Indian, but have always tried my hand at different cuisines. My favourites are Thai, Mexican and Chinese to name a few. I live in Germany, but there aren't a lot of options for vegetarians here, especially, now that I have stopped eating cheese (not for weight reasons, but read about a mysterious ingredient in it)

Hello world!

I'm not new to the world of blogging, although I haven't really been a part of one myself.

There have been days where I would long for some free time, but now, I've all the time on the earth to do things that I would have loved to do. These days, despite the fact that loads of things could be done, I seem to be in my own world or desperation and dejection to do anything fruitful and so decided that this might serve as a vent to me.

I used to love cooking and my husband loves eating!!!
